Abstract

Introduction: Contemporary health education places considerable emphasis on student satisfaction and selfassessment of acquired knowledge and competencies. The aim of this study was to analyze the satisfaction of students of the specialty of midwifery with the course Midwifery and Nursing Care of Women with Cancer. Attitudes towards professional employ-ment in oncology, oncogynecology and palliative care units were investigated. Material and Methods: An anonymous survey was conducted using a questionnaire method. Students from three consecutive graduating classes of the Medical University of Plovdiv were included. The results showed a high level of satisfaction with the discipline. Slightly more than half of the respondents indicated that they needed additional hours for educational practice at the Comprehensive Oncological Centre. Respondents identified empathy, tolerance and patience, good communication skills and teamwork skills as fundamental qualities for working with oncology patients. About one-third of the surveyed students stated they would work, but after additional training. Approximately the same proportion of students would not work in oncology and palliative care units under any circumstances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
