Abstract

The potential of hydrogen as a carbon-free fuel has generated a lot of excitement, with plans to build nearly 1,600 plants worldwide. However, the majority of these projects lack customers willing to purchase the fuel. Only 12% of hydrogen plants that are considered low-carbon have agreements with customers to use the fuel. The high cost of producing hydrogen from clean energy and the difficulty of building the necessary infrastructure are major obstacles. Despite ambitious goals set by countries and governments, many of these projects may never come to fruition. [Extracted from the article]
