Abstract
- Gary Tyler, an artist profiled in Quilting Arts Magazine, found solace and healing through quilting during his 41 years in Angola Prison in Louisiana. Despite being wrongly convicted of murder at the age of 16, Gary evolved and learned to survive in prison. He became involved in the prison drama club and worked in the hospice program, eventually discovering quilting through his involvement in the annual rodeo. Gary's quilts, which tell stories and depict personal experiences, gained popularity and showcased his unique self-taught skills. After his release from prison in 2016, Gary continued quilting and now hopes to inspire young people with his art. [Extracted from the article]
