Abstract
- Abby and her dad find praying mantis egg cases in a field and decide to take one home to watch the babies hatch. They put the egg case in a jar and keep it in the garage until the eggs hatch in the spring. Abby gives the jar as a birthday present to her mom, explaining that the baby mantises will eat insects that harm the plants in their garden. Abby and her mom release the mantises in the garden, where they grow and thrive throughout the summer. Abby later discovers a praying mantis making another egg case in the garden, which she presents as an early birthday gift to her mom. The article also provides information about praying mantises, such as their appearance and behavior. [Extracted from the article]
