Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Inner Mongolia Medical University in China explores the use of eco-friendly silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized from the ethanolic extract of Salvia sclarea in protecting against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy in rats. The researchers characterized the nanoparticles and conducted antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and apoptosis studies to understand their mode of action. The results showed that treatment with the nanoparticles significantly reduced blood glucose levels, decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines, modulated antioxidant enzyme concentrations, and decreased protein levels associated with apoptosis in renal cells of diabetic rats. The study suggests that these nanoparticles have potential in mitigating diabetic nephropathy. [Extracted from the article]
