Abstract

A recent research report from Government Medical College in Karur, India, explores the mechanical basis of intervertebral disk degeneration (IVDD). The study suggests that IVDD is caused by a combination of mechanical processes, including endplate or discal injuries, abnormal spinopelvic alignment, and increased disk stiffness. The researchers propose that these mechanical disruptions lead to secondary IVDD through unfavorable loading of the nucleus pulposus and annulus fibrosis. The study concludes that IVDD is a multifactorial condition and highlights the importance of understanding the mechanical pathways involved in its initiation. [Extracted from the article]
