Abstract

A recent study from Bologna, Italy, has focused on Mollaret's meningitis, a rare neurological disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of aseptic lymphocytic meningitis. The research found that these episodes are often associated with herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) infection. The study presented the case of a 39-year-old Italian woman who experienced four episodes of meningitis between 2004 and 2023, with symptoms including fever, severe headache, and photophobia. The patient was successfully treated with acyclovir, and the symptoms resolved without any lasting neurological effects. The research emphasizes the importance of comprehensive diagnostic testing and vigilant monitoring to effectively manage Mollaret's syndrome. [Extracted from the article]
