Abstract
- A new research study conducted in Tanzania highlights the challenges faced by the primary healthcare system in providing adequate care for maternal, child, and adolescent health. The study introduces the Afya-Tek program, a mobile-application based digital referral system that aims to improve coordination between community health workers, health facilities, and drug dispensing outlets. The program has enrolled over 241,000 individuals, resulting in improved access to healthcare services and increased referrals to health facilities. The study concludes that Afya-Tek holds promise for improving maternal, child, and adolescent health and can be scaled up and integrated with the government's Unified Community System.
