Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Xi'an Jiaotong University in China investigated the flow and heat transfer characteristics in a multi-pass channel using magnetic resonance velocimetry (MRV) and transient thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) techniques. The study found that the flow characteristics and heat transfer distribution on the end wall of the channels were different between smooth and ribbed channels. Strong dean vortices were observed in the smooth channel, enhancing heat transfer near the outer wall, while complex three-dimensional flow was present in the ribbed channel. The study concluded that endwall-directed velocity was a key mechanism for heat transfer enhancement in both types of channels. [Extracted from the article]
