Abstract

Researchers at Qingdao University in the People's Republic of China have conducted a study on clarithromycin, an antibiotic used to treat respiratory infections in pediatric patients. The study aimed to improve the solubility and mask the extreme bitterness of clarithromycin. The researchers used Hot Melt Extrusion (HME) to convert the crystalline form of clarithromycin to an amorphous form, which increased its dissolution rate. They also prepared a dry suspension with excellent suspending properties and a taste-masking effect. This research is significant for the development of pediatric formulations of clarithromycin.
