Abstract

This article explores the moral evaluation of video games from a virtue ethics perspective. It argues that actions in video games can still be evaluated morally, even if they are not traditionally considered in moral evaluations. The author examines previous attempts to justify the belief that certain video games or playing certain games are morally wrong, pointing out their limitations. The article proposes an identification theory based on Harry G. Frankfurt's theory of volition to explain why abnormal gaming behavior in normal games can be ethically problematic. It concludes by suggesting that virtue ethics can help us understand the ethical aspects of video games, as well as other areas such as simulation, art, and literature. [Extracted from the article]
