Abstract

This article discusses a case study of a patient with polycythemia vera and a JAK2 mutation who developed portal vein thrombosis (PVT) and portal hypertension. The patient initially received warfarin treatment but experienced complications, leading to the exploration of alternative treatment options. The article describes the use of trans-splenic sharp recanalization, extra-anatomic portal vein reconstruction, and intrahepatic portosystemic shunt creation as a successful approach to address the patient's condition. The article highlights the challenges and considerations involved in this procedure and suggests that it could be a viable option for select patients with portal hypertension and bleeding varices.
