Abstract

The article discusses the concept of procedural justice and its impact on police-youth relations, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The author highlights the importance of fair and respectful treatment by the police in building trust and legitimacy. The article also explores the relationship between young people and public space, noting that negative contacts with the police can significantly affect their perception of law enforcement. The author presents survey data from Belgium and Ireland, suggesting that trust in the police and legal system among young people has not significantly declined after the pandemic. However, the author acknowledges the need for further research on the long-term impact of the pandemic on young people's lives and calls for a rights-based analysis that includes the perspectives of young people themselves.
