Abstract

Nicholas Rescher, a German-born American philosopher and professor at the University of Pittsburgh, made significant contributions to various philosophical disciplines throughout his career. He was particularly interested in logic, analysis, moral and social philosophy, and the philosophy of science. Rescher was known for his defense of the coherence theory of truth, which states that a statement is true if it is coherent with a body of well-evidenced opinion. He was also a prolific organizer and founder of several scholarly journals. Rescher passed away on January 5, 2024, at the age of 95. [Extracted from the article]
