Abstract

This study, investigates how adaptable silica made from rice husks could be used in energy storage applications. It is show that rice husk silica (SiO<subscript>2</subscript>) can be used in a variety of applications with the right processing. Cold plasma is used to prepare the silica samples in a variety of structural phases which improves their electrochemical characteristics. Using (X-ray diffraction analysis) XRD, Raman spectroscopy, (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) FTIR, (Field emission scanning Electron microscopy) FESEM, and (Energy Dispersive spectroscopy) EDS techniques are used to investigate and evaluate the differences in their structural, morphological, and chemical composition. A three-electrode system is used to assess the material's electrochemical performance. Surprisingly, it is found that after plasma treatment, amorphous silica materials have a large increase in specific capacitance (297 F/g) as a result of an increase in functional groups and better adhesion characteristics. These silica samples also have an outstanding electron reversibility and coulombic efficiency. The effect of the various properties of the silica on super capacitance and catalyst performances in metal air battery is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
