Abstract

The agricultural growth of the nation resulted in the elevated amount of agricultural toxic contaminants in water. It is a promising technique for the degradation of agricultural pollutants. Photocatalysis is termed the utilization of light energy as an inexhaustible and green energy source for degrading organic pollutants through reactive oxygen species generation. The agricultural pollutants mainly comprise pesticides, herbicides, and certain veterinary contaminants. This paper aims to discuss the prevalence of various photocatalytic agents in the degradation process of agricultural pollutants in water. Considering this, the present review has attempted to look back at the existing research based on applying chemical agents as photocatalysts to treat contaminated water systems. Literature that falls within the period from 2018 to 2023 is chosen, and the effects of various photocatalytic agents on agricultural pollutants have been explored. The categorization of the existing literature is highly relevant for future research that aims to recognize the role of photocatalytic agents and their contribution toward the purification of water systems and the eradication of agricultural pollutants. It also highlights the challenges and benefits of incorporating photocatalytic agents for the degradation process of agricultural pollutants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
