Abstract

A new report from researchers at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in China discusses the relationship between gut microbiota and hyperlipidemia, a condition characterized by high levels of blood lipids that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The study found that the gut microbiota of hyperlipidemic patients could be classified into two enterotypes, with significant differences in the abundance of certain bacteria between the two groups. The researchers suggest that these findings may have implications for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in the journal Food Bioscience.
