Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, explored the relationship between early life stress (ELS), metabolic syndrome (MetS), and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), a protein associated with cardiometabolic diseases. The study found that individuals with a history of ELS had higher levels of PAI-1 and a higher MetS risk score. Additionally, engaging in higher levels of daily exercise was linked to lower PAI-1 levels in individuals with ELS. These findings suggest that exercise may be a potential early intervention for individuals with ELS. The study was funded by the NIH and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
