Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University in China aimed to quantify ocular microcirculation in hypertension patients with carotid artery stenosis (CAS). The study found that CAS in hypertension patients led to decreased retinal and choroidal microcirculation. The researchers also discovered that retinal vessel density and choroidal vascularity index were significantly associated with the presence of CAS in hypertension patients. The study suggests that hypertension macro- and microangiopathy are mutually affected and share a common pathophysiology. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was identified as a useful non-invasive tool for assessing CAS risk profiles in hypertension patients. [Extracted from the article]
