Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Iran compared the outcomes, success rate, and complications of performing elective ureteroscopy at different times in patients with ureteral stones larger than 6 mm. The study included 338 patients and found that performing ureteroscopy more than 1 week from the onset of renal colic, in combination with medical treatments, was associated with fewer complications, less need for double-J stent placement, and less need for repeated ureteroscopy compared to performing ureteroscopy within 1 week. Although the rate of ureteroscopy failure was higher in the group that underwent the procedure within 1 week, there was no statistically significant relationship between performing ureteroscopy within 1 week and an increased risk for ureteroscopy failure.
