Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institute explores the barriers to the quality delivery of seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) in Chad and Burkina Faso. SMC is a community-based intervention recommended by the World Health Organization to prevent malaria in children in African regions with seasonal malaria transmission. The study found that while SMC was well accepted by communities, there were several barriers to its quality delivery, including difficulties ensuring adherence to the administration protocol, reaching mobile populations, concerns about adverse drug reactions and safety, and working conditions for community distributors. The researchers recommend integrating strategies to address these concerns, implementing gender-specific mobilization strategies, and improving the working conditions of community distributors.
