Abstract
- U.S. pork exports to Malaysia have been increasing due to the impact of African swine fever on domestic production and limited supplies of European pork. Despite being a predominantly Muslim country, there is a strong demand for pork among the non-Muslim population in Malaysia. The approval process for U.S. pork plants in Malaysia has been streamlined, with the possibility of a paper application process for future registrations. U.S. pork exports to Malaysia have seen significant growth, reaching over 1,500% in 2023, and efforts are being made to gain eligibility for more U.S. beef facilities, although this process is more complex due to the halal requirements.
