Abstract
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the comment period for their proposed rule on "Fair and Competitive Livestock and Poultry Markets" by 15 days, according to the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA). The original deadline for comments was August 27, 2024, but it has been extended to September 11, 2024. The NCBA believes that the extension is not enough time to properly solicit public comment and review a rule that will have a significant impact on the cattle industry. The proposed rule aims to provide clarity on what constitutes "unfair" practices in the livestock and poultry markets and ensure fair and competitive markets for producers. Comments can be submitted online through the USDA's website. [Extracted from the article]
