Abstract
- A data center building boom in the US is expected to increase the electricity demand of American Electric Power Co. (AEP) by 15 gigawatts by 2030. This is equivalent to the output of 15 nuclear reactors and represents a 42% increase in AEP's current peak load. The demand for electricity is driven by the need to power data centers, as well as electrified factories and battery-powered cars. AEP plans to supply most of the new data centers in Ohio and Texas, and has outlined plans to add 20 gigawatts of new power generation by 2033, including wind, solar, and natural gas.
