Abstract

This study seeks to identify the most suitable pavement texture resolution for accurately representing friction properties, employing the Dynamic Friction Model (DFM). Friction and texture measurements were conducted on various pavement surfaces at resolutions ranging from 10 μm to 5000 μm. Results indicate that the optimal resolution for accurate representation is unexpectedly found to be 500 μm, aligning with the Microtexture/Macrotexture limit. This contradicts current trends emphasizing higher resolutions for pavement surface representation. The article provides a foundational exploration, prompting discussions and further investigations into determining the ideal resolution for characterizing pavement surfaces in the context of friction properties.
