Abstract

In the article "The Black Widow Case," a widow named Mrs. Portman is denied an insurance claim for her husband's death because it was not considered an accident. The insurance agent explains that the autonomous vehicle made a voluntary decision to avoid a greater evil, resulting in her husband's death. Mrs. Portman files two lawsuits, one against the software company for programming the AI without considering user input, and another against the insurance company for not covering her husband's death due to a computer design error. The court rules in favor of Mrs. Portman in both cases, leading to changes in AI programming and insurance policies for autonomous vehicles. The case raises questions about the responsibility of software programs and the ethics of allowing computers to make life-or-death decisions. [Extracted from the article]
