Abstract
- "Bad Land" by Corinna Chong is a novel that tells the story of Regina, a loner living in her childhood home in the badlands of Alberta, Canada. When her younger brother Ricky shows up with his daughter Jez, Regina takes them in, hoping to form a meaningful relationship with Jez. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Ricky and Jez are on the run, and Regina is forced to confront the history of violence in their family. While the novel explores themes of generational trauma, some reviewers found the characterizations to be underdeveloped, particularly in regards to Regina's extreme isolation and obesity.
