Abstract
- This article reports on various news briefs related to recent developments concerning the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It is reported that the ACM is seeking nominations for its Grace Murray Hopper Award, given each year to the outstanding young computer professional selected on the basis of a single recent major technical or service contribution to the computer industry. While the Award is given to the outstanding young computer professional, emphasis in 1979 will be placed on contributions in the fields of business data processing and personal computing. The ACM has recently announced its call for papers for the George E. Forsythe Student Paper Competition which is ACM's major opportunity for any undergraduate to submit a paper on any topic related to computer science and information processing. Papers are due by October 12, 1979. Robert S. Barton of Burroughs Corp. has, reportedly, been named the first recipient of the ACM/IEEE-CS Eckert-Mauchly Computer Architecture Award. He is known primarily for his contributions to the design and engineering of a series of Burroughs computer systems.
