Abstract

This article discusses the need for a reckoning within the hip-hop industry regarding gender-based violence and abuse. It highlights the case of Cassie Ventura, who filed a lawsuit against Sean "Diddy" Combs for rape and abuse, and the subsequent allegations made by other survivors. The article argues that hip-hop needs its own #MeToo movement and criticizes the silence and complicity of prominent men in the industry. It also addresses the devaluation of femininity and the lack of space for celebrating Black queerness in hip-hop. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for change in order for hip-hop to survive and evolve. [Extracted from the article]
