Abstract

A recent study conducted in Ahvaz, Iran aimed to determine the levels of serum vitamin D and serum ferritin in children and adolescents with thalassemia, iron deficiency anemia, and healthy individuals. The study found that severe vitamin D deficiency was observed in individuals with thalassemia major due to an increase in ferritin levels. Moderate deficiency of vitamin D was observed in healthy individuals, while mild deficiency was observed in the iron deficiency anemia group. These findings highlight the importance of monitoring vitamin D and ferritin levels in individuals with these conditions. [Extracted from the article]
