Abstract

A report from the Amrita Institute of Medical Science in Kerala, India discusses the diagnosis of intestinal perforation, a potentially life-threatening condition. Typically, bowel perforation is diagnosed based on symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, tenderness, and tachycardia. Conventional imaging modalities like X-ray, ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging are commonly used, but nuclear medicine imaging modalities are rarely utilized. The report describes a case where intestinal perforation was suspected on a 99mTc-DTPA renogram, a nuclear medicine imaging test, in a postoperative patient with urine leak, which was later confirmed during surgery. This case appears to be the first of its kind in the literature. [Extracted from the article]
