Abstract

A study conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston examined the association between social determinants of health and the length of hospitalization after revision total hip and knee arthroplasty (TJA). The researchers compared three national indices of social deprivation and found that the area deprivation index (ADI) was significantly associated with prolonged hospital stays. However, no association was found using the social deprivation index (SDI) or social vulnerability index (SVI). The study suggests that ADI could be a useful metric for understanding the impact of social determinants of health on hospital stays following TJA. [Extracted from the article]
