Abstract
- A study conducted by Uppsala University in Sweden investigated the relationship between virulence factors and phylogeny in neonatal Escherichia coli bloodstream infections. The study found that E. coli isolates belonging to phylogroup B2 were associated with higher mortality rates, extreme prematurity, and shock compared to isolates of non-B2 group. Female neonates were more likely to be infected with phylogroup B2 E. coli. The study also highlighted the correlation between neonatal E. coli bacteremia caused by phylogroup B2 and the role of colibactin. The research emphasizes the differences between male and female neonates in E. coli populations in bloodstream infections. [Extracted from the article]
