Abstract

A recent report from the Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences in China has identified the presence of Nairobi Sheep Disease Virus (NSDV) in ticks in Shandong province. NSDV is a tick-borne syndrome that affects small ruminants and can also infect humans. The study found three strains of NSDV in ticks collected in 2020, and phylogenetic analysis showed that these strains were closely related to other Chinese NSDV strains. The researchers recommend increased surveillance of NSDV in areas where the tick species Haemaphysalis longicornis is endemic. [Extracted from the article]
