Abstract
- A recent study conducted in Pavia, Italy compared the effectiveness of proton therapy and photon therapy in treating pediatric patients with thoracic and abdominal neuroblastoma. The study found that proton therapy resulted in statistically significant dose sparing for the heart, lungs, contralateral kidney, liver, spleen, and bowel, compared to photon therapy. Both techniques met the protocol's requirements in terms of dose delivered to adjacent vertebrae. The researchers concluded that a multidisciplinary assessment is necessary to determine the most suitable treatment modality for each individual case. [Extracted from the article]
