Abstract
- A report from Aichi Children's Health and Medical Center in Japan discusses the predictors of membrane oxygenator failure in pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The study found that a ratio of blood flow divided by the blood flow limit of the membrane oxygenator (B/L) of less than 0.5 was associated with a higher risk of membrane oxygenator failure within 72 hours. Additionally, an increase in body weight and elevated aspartate aminotransferase levels were also identified as independent risk factors for early membrane oxygenator failure. The researchers suggest that further investigation is needed to better understand this association. [Extracted from the article]
