Abstract
- A study conducted at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom compared the trends and early clinical outcomes of trainees and consultants in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. The study found that trainees performed 24.39% of the procedures, with consultants having shorter bypass and cross-clamp times but higher mortality and incidence of postoperative dialysis. However, trainees had comparable outcomes to consultants in multiple arterial graft procedures and off-pump cases. The research concluded that trainees in the UK have sufficient exposure to advanced coronary surgery without compromising patient safety. [Extracted from the article]
