Abstract

Audi has hired the former head of Ferrari's Formula 1 team, Mattia Binotto, to lead their push to join the racing competition in 2026. Binotto will take on the roles of chief operating officer and chief technical officer at Sauber Motorsport AG F1. This move is part of Audi's efforts to strengthen their racing project and improve their recruiting efforts. The shakeup also includes the replacement of Oliver Hoffmann and Sauber Motorsport CEO Andreas Seidl. Audi's CEO, Gernot Döllner, will become Sauber Motorsport's chairman. Binotto, a mechanical engineer, previously served as team principal of Ferrari's F1 team but resigned after a disappointing season. The popularity of F1 has increased in recent years, particularly in the US, due to marketing investments and the success of the Netflix documentary series Drive to Survive.
