Abstract

Traditionally, marketing research and theory has included investigation into transportation and related subjects. This research has evolved much in the last few years. Researchers have begun to focus on a broadening of the transportation field that includes newer concepts such as logistics and supply chain management. In this paper, the evolution of transportation logistics, and supply chain management research over the last 15 years is compared to similar research from the previous 15 years as cataloged by Professor Richard Jones in the premiere issue of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice. This paper attempts to chronicle the evolution from transportation to logistics to supply chain management since in the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice was established.
