Abstract

This document is an editorial discussing the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in protected areas (PAs). The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework has set a target of protecting and managing 30% of the world's terrestrial and marine areas by 2030. The editorial highlights the need to integrate conservation efforts with regional development and explores strategies for promoting a harmonious model of human-land interaction. The document summarizes 11 articles published under the Research Topic, which cover topics such as the spatial layout of PAs, conservation status and effectiveness, the relationship between conservation measures and ecosystem changes, and the attitudes and perceptions of local communities. The studies emphasize the importance of effective management measures and maintaining a balance between conservation and sustainable development in PAs. [Extracted from the article]
