CALUL ÎN LEGENDE, POVEȘTI, GHICITORI ȘI ZICĂTORI. DIN RĂSPUNSURILE LA CHESTIONARUL I AL MUZEULUI LIMBII ROMÂNE.

The present study aims at identifying and interpreting the role that the horse plays in legends, stories, riddles, and sayings. More specifically, we extracted the material from the answers to question number 138 of the first survey issued by The Museum of the Romanian Language in 1922 (the first one in a collection of eight surveys): "What do people believe about the horse? What role does it play in carols, spells, and disenchantments?" The answers were provided by village intellectuals, mostly teachers and priests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
