Abstract
- A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology explores the impact of pruritus (itching) on patient fatigue. The study finds that pruritus, whether as a standalone disease or secondary to inflammatory skin conditions, can significantly affect the quality of life of patients. Itching is associated with reduced sleep quality and periods of rest, leading to fatigue. The study, conducted using the All of Us database, reveals that patients with pruritus have a higher prevalence of fatigue compared to the control group. Specific pruritic conditions, such as chronic pruritus of unknown origin (CPUO) and prurigo nodularis, show a strong association with fatigue. The study emphasizes the need to understand the relationship between chronic itch and fatigue, particularly in understudied diseases. Future research should investigate the connection between itch and fatigue in different age cohorts, especially older adults. [Extracted from the article]
