Climate-Induced Vulnerabilities: Conflict and Migration Patterns in the Sahel Region of Africa.

The research aims to explore the complex and interrelated connections of climate change, conflict and migration in the Sahel region. Furthermore, it explores the patterns of human mobility, both internal displacement and cross-border migration, driven by climate-related environmental stressors, food insecurity, and conflict-induced displacement. The Sahel region of Africa stands at the crossroads of intersecting environmental stressors and human mobility, with climate change acting as a catalyst for conflict and migration. Using an interdisciplinary approach, this research synthesizes existing literature and incorporates quantitative analysis, qualitative insights, and geospatial mapping. It highlights case studies to explore the complex relationships between climate change, conflict, and migration in the Sahel. The study identified notable patterns in which environmental stressors, such as droughts, are closely associated with a rise in violence and displacement. The results explain how these stressors increase rivalry for limited resources, therefore intensifying disputes and stimulating migration. To address the challenges the region is facing, implement sustainable resource management and diversified economic opportunities, alongside robust governance to manage conflicts and promote social unity.
