Abstract

Richie Frieman, a Jewish resident of Owings Mills, has written a book called "The Optimistics" that highlights the stories of individuals with dementia. The book focuses on the friendship between three men, Dennis, Mike, and Jim, who formed a bond through their shared experience of younger-onset dementia. Frieman conducted interviews with these men, as well as other care partners and individuals with dementia, to capture their unwavering desire to remain optimistic in the face of an incurable disease. Frieman, who has had various careers including being an artist, columnist, journalist, entrepreneur, and inventor, is donating a portion of the proceeds from his book sales to the Alzheimer's Association and YES! Young-Onset Dementia Education and Support. [Extracted from the article]
