Abstract
- Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. and other companies have tentatively agreed to pay over $4 billion to settle hundreds of lawsuits related to the wildfires that occurred in Maui last year. The proposed settlement would resolve suits on behalf of homeowners and businesses against Hawaiian Electric, Charter Communications, and state and local governments. The settlement amount is below the estimated cost of the fires, and it is still unclear how the liability will be divided among the parties involved. The settlement is subject to final approval and will be paid out over four years. [Extracted from the article]
