Abstract

Stellantis NV, the parent company of Fiat, Peugeot, and Jeep, plans to increase production of transmission systems for hybrid vehicles due to weaker demand for fully electric cars. The company aims to speed up production of its electrified dual-clutch gearboxes by 10%. This shift in focus is driven by increased demand for hybrids, which are seen as more affordable and less dependent on charging infrastructure compared to electric vehicles. Stellantis is expanding its hybrid lineup and has capacity for over 1.2 million electrified dual-clutch transmissions per year. The company is investing in its Mirafiori plant in Italy, which has seen a decline in car production and is currently assembling the electric Fiat 500. The Italian government is concerned about preserving jobs, and Stellantis has pledged to invest €240 million in the overhaul of the Mirafiori site. [Extracted from the article]
