Abstract
- A pilot study conducted at Xinjiang Medical University in Urumqi, China, examined the use of prophylactic percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (pPEG) in patients with newly diagnosed oral cancer who underwent surgery and subsequent chemoradiation. The study divided 113 patients into three groups: pPEG, nasogastric tube, and oral feeding. The results showed that patients in the pPEG group had the lowest incidence of surgical site infection (SSI), but also the longest hospital stay. The researchers concluded that further large-scale clinical trials are needed to validate these findings. [Extracted from the article]
