Abstract

A researcher from Duzce University in Turkey has conducted a study on gender estimation using machine learning algorithms and artificial neural networks. The study focused on using morphometric measurements of the mandibular lingula, a structure on the mandible, to determine gender. Cone beam computed tomography images were used to obtain measurements, and the results showed high accuracy rates ranging from 0.78 to 0.88. The study suggests that these measurements can be used for gender determination and provide valuable information for oral-dental surgeons, anthropologists, and forensic experts.
