Abstract

This article provides a brief overview of four notable fiction debuts that may be of interest to library patrons. "The Volcano Daughters" by Gina María Balibrera explores the aftermath of an anti-communist massacre in El Salvador through the lives of two sisters who become artists. "Olive Days" by Jessica Elisheva Emerson delves into the domestic responsibilities and religious struggles of a modern Orthodox Jewish woman who attends a swingers party. "Black Butterflies" by Priscilla Morris tells the story of a Bosnian Serb painter who remains in Sarajevo during the siege of the city in the 1990s. "Only Here, Only Now" by Tom Newlands follows the life of Cora Mowat, a spirited young woman with ADHD growing up in a postindustrial town in Scotland. Additionally, the article highlights four upcoming books: "This Cursed House" by Del Sandeen, "Medusa of the Roses" by Navid Sinaki, "The Snap" by Elizabeth Staple, and "Five-Star Stranger" by Kat Tang.
