Abstract

A report from Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Parma in Italy discusses new research findings on encephalitis. The study focuses on a rare subtype of encephalitis called FLAMES, which is characterized by distinct clinical and MRI findings. FLAMES can be easily confused with other conditions such as viral encephalitis or meningitis. The report describes the case of a 4-year-old girl with FLAMES who experienced seizures, fever, headache, and optic neuritis. The patient responded well to steroid therapy and did not experience any further neurological problems or seizures in the following year. The case report aims to improve understanding of FLAMES in pediatric patients for early diagnosis and prompt treatment. [Extracted from the article]
